Answers Revealed! How the Urchins Spent Their Labour Day

We certainly hope you all had a great Labour Day. Yesterday we quizzed you on what we’d each be doing. Overall, you were correct! (We are so proud of you!) Please find below the complete answers – just don’t share them with the next class, thank you very much.

Geo spent Labour Day… entertaining an old British friend! Actually, I first spent Labour Day by begging for the day off. Once that was achieved (with much of the same effortless grace as that of our founding fathers), I set off on a walking exploration of Brooklyn with a dear, dear friend from London, who had been gracing me with her presence all weekend. We started the day with PB&Js, which we paid someone else to make because gosh darnit it was Labour Day and shame on you if we should do any work! After breakfast we strolled down the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, shrunk under the bridges over DUMBO, then took the subway to Park Slope, watched a few curious dog interactions in Prospect Park, before catching the tail end of a rather sexually charged West Indies Parade down Eastern Parkway. So, in other words, a day like any other in this great city of Brooklyn.

Sarah spent Labour Day… going to the fair! Animals, food, and rides? Why would I not be there? I had been once before and was excited to revisit some of the best moments (lambs being born, tilt-a-whirl, what Angelenos think is appropriate to wear to a fair). But this year I was also excited to wear my Investigative Hat. There were farm animals galore, the promise of vegan food, and… elephants. Stay tuned tomorrow for a full report on how I fared (ha ha).

Margaret spent Labour Day… trolling campgrounds for a free shower! That’s right.

Margaret needs this.

Don’t get me wrong, I love bathing in Rocky Mountain streams (which I did), but after a while, you just need a shower. National Forest campgrounds are wonderful for their privacy and low-cost, but lacking in certain hygienic amenities. Eventually, Rory and I paid a whole $5 for a shower at a private campground… and are now eagerly awaiting our next one. I’m sure the guy next to me in the coffee shoppe is as well.
